Let’s start with a confession: that 3.99 CGPA on my transcript is a bit of a liar. When you see it, it looks like a statue…cold, polished, and untouchable. It suggests a student who spent every waking hour in a library, someone who mastered the art of the perfect bibliography and never missed a deadline. It suggests a life of “all work and no play.” But if you’re holding this book, I want you to look past that number. Behind it, you will see a girl who was often running from a classroom straight to a board meeting for a project she started on her laptop. Behind that number is someone who spent weekends in flood-affected villages and weeknights on international calls advocating for human rights.
Who is this guide actually for? If you are a student who feels “too much” for the boxes people try to put you in, this book is for you. I wrote this because I realized that today, we are expected to be superheroes when we are barely even a person ourselves. We are told to get the grades, save the planet, lead movements, and somehow stay “well” while doing it all. It sounds impossible, but it’s actually a science; a behavioral science. In my seven semesters of university, I’ve worn many hats, from being the class representative handling daily drama to standing in rooms with global leaders to talk about social justice. Now how do you do all of this at the same time? This is the question I was asked most throughout my degree. Most success stories tell you to pick one lane and be a specialist. But our generation doesn’t have that luxury. The world has big problems, and we have to be the scholars who understand the data, the activists who plant the trees, and the friends who support those who are struggling. This book isn’t a textbook; it’s a survival guide. It is a blueprint for a life where you don’t have to choose between your GPA and your passion for making an impact.
Remember, in your journey, you will notice that some parts of this book are a bit raw. I talk about the burnout of trying to help everyone and the weight of seeing people struggle and feeling like you aren’t doing enough. I included these moments because leadership isn’t just about the “impact” photos you post online on LinkedIn. It’s about managing your own emotions so you can help others manage theirs. If the leaders aren’t okay, the movement won’t be either. My goal is that by the time you finish this book, you don’t just have a higher GPA but also part our journey with a purpose.
I get it, you’re skeptical about this but I spent my university years trying to bridge the gap between books and the real world. Whether it was organizing mental health galas or cleaning parks, every action was a lesson. I have made all the mistakes so you don’t have to. I’ve felt the sting of rejection and the rush of winning. So, take a deep breath. Close your textbook for a second. Let’s figure out how to save your GPA, and then let’s figure out how we’re going to save the world.
Welcome to the 3.99 Survival Guide. Let’s get to work.
